Lights Shining Deadly
Chris Mummelthey, long-time singer and co-founder of the German death metal band INCUBATOR, ventures into new territory, 20 years after his last physical output
Together with the filmmaker Lisa Roderer, the long-time Lost Place photographer Chris Mummelthey, who now works under a pseudonym, produced a film that shows his view of death metal and his personal, current interpretation of it. In the film he focuses on eerie and abandoned places from all over Europe, which are staged using sounds and noises composed by himself.
„LIGHTS SHINING DEADLY“ is also a homage to great noise and industrial artists such as COIL, NURSE WITH WOUND, MINISTRY, EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN etc. Chris Mummelthey gives his interpretation of „death metal" or „deadly“/ „scary“ music a new, more modern and freer stage, because nothing can be understood without pictures and videos. A kind of liberation from a role that was too rigid for him as a death metal singer from the start.
„LIGHTS SHINING DEADLY“ is not a classic film, but rather a trip, a journey through various dark chapters of his creative phase as a pure musician and not as a frontman or singer. A portfolio of images, videos and sounds. 90 deep black minutes that you're better off taking in with a glass of wine, a joint or something else, rather than expecting classic storylines or staging of the respective protagonists. A hypnotic independent work, a journey through the dark corners of Europe...
